Our History

Bateau Bay Neighbourhood Centre (BBNC) opened to the community in January 1991 as Cynthia Street Neighbourhood Centre .  The centre was established to provide advocacy and support to the community as well as a venue for individuals and groups from Tumbi Umbi, Bateau Bay, Killarney Vale and Forresters Beach to meet.

As part of Berkeley Vale Neighbourhood Centre Inc. the centre has been in operation under the auspice of Berkeley Vale Neighbourhood Centre.

Cynthia Street Community Centre worked with the community to provide projects and services targeted at enhancing the lives and opportunities of those living in the surrounding social housing area. Relying heavily on volunteers the centre was known for its CDAT (community drug action team)  program, Kids Discos, Christmas parties, Sports in the Neighbourhood program, computer classes and providing a safe space for vulnerable members of the community to meet and be offered advice and referral.

In 2013 the Centre changed its name from Cynthia St Neighbourhood Centre to Bateau Bay Neighbourhood Centre.
Since 2013 the Neighbourhood Centre has focused on assisting the community through programs, services and events targeted at reducing social isolation and empowering individuals, vulnerable families, and young people.
